Creating Your First Campaign
Email campaigns are the foundation of e-commerce marketing

Campaigns are the bread and butter of email marketing. Whether you're announcing a sale, sharing new products, or nurturing your customer relationships, Kling makes it easy to reach your audience with beautiful, effective emails.

Understanding Campaign Types

Before diving in, let's understand the different types of campaigns you can create:

  • One-time campaigns: Perfect for announcements, sales, or newsletters
  • Recurring campaigns: Automatically send on a schedule (weekly digest, monthly roundup)
  • A/B test campaigns: Test different versions to optimize performance

Start Simple

For your first campaign, stick with a one-time send. You can explore recurring campaigns and A/B testing once you're comfortable with the basics.

Creating Your Campaign

Let's walk through creating a campaign from start to finish.

1

Start a New Campaign

Navigate to Campaigns in the sidebar and click New Campaign. You'll see our template gallery with pre-built designs for common use cases like welcome emails, promotions, and announcements.

2

Choose Your Template

Select a template that matches your goal, or choose "Blank" to start fresh. Our templates are fully customizable, so don't worry about finding a perfect match.

Design Your Email

The visual editor lets you drag and drop elements to create your perfect email. Add images, buttons, text blocks, and more. Key tips: keep your subject line under 50 characters, use a single clear call-to-action, include your logo for brand recognition, and test on mobile since most opens happen on phones!

4

Configure Your Settings

Set the essential details: From name (usually your business name), From email (must be verified in your email provider), Subject line (make it compelling and relevant), and Preview text (the snippet that appears after the subject).

Selecting Your Audience

Kling's segmentation lets you target exactly the right customers:

Quick Segments

  • All customers
  • Purchased in last 30 days
  • Never purchased
  • VIP customers (high spenders)

Custom Segments

Build complex conditions like "Customers who bought shoes but not socks in the last 90 days." Head to Customers > Segments to create reusable segments.

Respect Opt-outs

Kling automatically excludes customers who've unsubscribed. Never import suppressed contacts back into your list.

Preview and Test

Before sending to your full list, always preview and test:

  1. Click Preview to see how your email looks on desktop and mobile
  2. Click Send Test to receive a copy in your inbox
  3. Check all links work correctly
  4. Verify personalization tags (like {{first_name}}) display properly

Scheduling and Sending

You have two options:

  • Send Now: Immediately begins delivery
  • Schedule: Pick a specific date and time

Best sending times vary by audience. Generally, Tuesday-Thursday mornings (9-11am) see higher open rates. But test what works for your customers!

Analyzing Results

After your campaign sends, check the analytics:

  • Open rate: Percentage who opened (aim for 20%+)
  • Click rate: Percentage who clicked a link (aim for 2-5%)
  • Conversions: Revenue generated from the campaign
  • Unsubscribes: Keep this below 0.5%
