Email deliverability can make or break your marketing efforts. Even the best-crafted message is worthless if it lands in spam. This guide helps you configure a reliable email provider to ensure your messages reach the inbox.
Choosing a Provider
Kling supports multiple email providers. Here's how they compare:
| Provider | Best For | Pricing | | ---------- | --------------------- | ------------------ | | Resend | Modern apps, great DX | From free tier | | Postmark | Transactional email | $1.25/1,000 emails | | Amazon SES | High volume | $0.10/1,000 emails | | SendGrid | Marketing campaigns | From free tier | | Mailgun | Developers | From $0.80/1,000 |
Our Recommendation
For most users, we recommend Resend. It offers excellent deliverability, a generous free tier, and the simplest setup process.
Setting Up Resend
Resend is our recommended provider. Here's how to get started:
Create a Resend Account
Visit resend.com and sign up. The free tier includes 100 emails/day, perfect for testing.
Add Your Domain
In the Resend dashboard, go to Domains and add your sending domain. You'll need to add DNS records for verification.
Configure DNS Records
Resend will provide DNS records to add:
- SPF: Authorizes Resend to send on your behalf
- DKIM: Cryptographically signs your emails
- DMARC: Tells receivers how to handle failures
Add these in your domain registrar (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, etc.).
Get Your API Key
Once your domain is verified, go to API Keys and create a new key. Give it a descriptive name like "Kling Production."
Configure in Kling
Navigate to Settings > Providers > Email in Kling. Enter:
- Provider: Resend
- API Key: Your Resend API key
- From Email: hello@yourdomain.com
- From Name: Your Brand Name
Click Save and send a test email to verify.
DNS Records Explained
Understanding these records helps troubleshoot deliverability issues:
SPF (Sender Policy Framework)
Tells receiving servers which IPs can send email for your domain.
v=spf1 include:resend.com ~all
DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail)
Adds a cryptographic signature to prove the email wasn't modified.
DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication)
Instructs receivers what to do with failing emails.
v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:dmarc@yourdomain.com
DNS Propagation
DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate globally. If verification fails immediately, wait and try again.
Setting Up Amazon SES
For high-volume senders, Amazon SES offers unbeatable pricing:
Enable SES in AWS
Log into AWS Console and navigate to Simple Email Service. Select your preferred region.
Verify Your Domain
Click Verified identities > Create identity. Choose "Domain" and enter your domain name. AWS provides DNS records to add.
Create SMTP Credentials
Go to SMTP settings > Create SMTP credentials. Download the credentials immediately.
Request Production Access
New SES accounts start in "sandbox mode" with limited sending. Request production access to remove restrictions.
Testing Your Setup
After configuration, always test:
- Go to Settings > Providers > Email
- Click Send Test Email
- Enter your email address
- Check both inbox and spam folder
If the test arrives in spam, review your DNS records and sender reputation.
Deliverability Best Practices
Beyond provider setup, follow these guidelines:
Build Reputation Gradually
- Start with your most engaged subscribers
- Gradually increase volume over weeks
- Monitor bounces and complaints closely
Maintain List Hygiene
- Remove hard bounces immediately
- Re-engage or remove inactive subscribers
- Use double opt-in for new signups
Follow Content Guidelines
- Avoid spam trigger words in subjects
- Include a clear unsubscribe link
- Balance text and images (aim for 60/40)
Kling automatically handles unsubscribes and bounces, updating customer records to prevent future sends.
